As you arrive at Wimpole Estate, the difference from the surrounding landscape is clear, with livestock gently grazing in the parkland; venerable old trees in grand avenues and on the horizon a Victorian Stable Block, the sense of space and everything on a grand scale is everywhere.

Located just eight miles South West of Cambridge, Wimpole Estate is a 2500 acre country estate comprising a mansion, garden, farm and parkland. Bequeathed to the National Trust in 1976 by Mrs Elsie Bambridge, daughter of Rudyard Kipling.
The mansion, at the heart of this estate, is evidence of Elsie Bambridge's success in creating a home. Intimate rooms contrast with beautiful and unexpected Georgian interiors, including Soane's breathtaking Yellow Drawing Room and wonderful plunge bath. The fascinating basement corridor offers a glimpse into life below stairs.
Stroll around the colourful parterre garden and wander through the Pleasure Grounds to the Walled Garden, abundant with fruit, vegetables and herbaceous borders.
Home Farm, a commercial livestock farm and rare breeds centre, contrasts the traditional farmyard with the noisy modern piggery and cattle sheds, was designed for the 3rd Earl as a model farm in the late eighteenth century, by Sir John Soane. Home Farm was at the cutting edge of agricultural practice of the time and a showpiece of the estate tour.
Stride out across the landscape park, amongst the rare-breed cattle and imagine the previous owners planning their visions of grand avenues and spectacular vistas with landscape designers such as Capability Brown and Humphrey Repton.
